PZ Cussons Foundation - Project Guidelines

The mission of the Foundation is to improve the welfare of Nigerians by working in partnership with local communities / government and other NGO’s to deploy sustainable projects with positive impact.

The objectives of the Foundation are

  • To discharge PZ Cussons corporate social responsibility
  • Foster good relationships with host communities
  • Be a leader in the deployment of CSR policies in Nigeria

The principles guiding the company’s corporate social investment include:

  • Maximal community involvement
  • Sustainability of supported interventions;
  • Wide geographical spread

The priority areas of intervention are health, roads, education and potable water.

The major criteria for evaluating and selecting project/program proposals for support include:

  • Must fit into the Foundation’s priority areas of intervention
  • High relevance and impact to the needs of the community
  • Community’s ownership after commissioning
  • Must be sustainable
  • Dependent on resource requirements vis-a viz total resources available.

The process of project development, selection and implementation goes through a proposal submission, evaluation of proposal by the Secretariat, recommendation to the Board of Trustees( BOT) for decision, development of implementation plan, implementation, monitoring and evaluation.

The source of funding for selected projects is the budgetary allocation from the Foundation Fund.

The Foundation’s governance structure is two -tiered:

  1. An Administrative Board responsible for the day-to-day management of the Foundation’s Secretariat and
  2. The Board of Trustees largely responsible for providing policy and strategy direction, approval of proposals, approval of budget and its allocation to selected proposals.

A strong communication plan aimed at both external and internal stakeholders is in place to ensure that all stakeholders are kept fully involved in and informed of what is going on.

In addition, an evaluation and impact analysis process has been developed to be able to determine the value added by the company’s corporate social investment.
